Perilipin 5 regulates lipid metabolism and insulin action (#77)
Lipid accumulation in ectopic tissues such as skeletal muscle and the liver is associated with the activation of stress kinases, oxidative stress, endoplasmic reticulum stress and the development of insulin resistance. In this presentation, I will present data from our laboratory outlining the intracellular roles of the protein perilipin 5, a novel regulator of lipid metabolism, and how ablation of this protein in mice impacts insulin action.
