Joanna Crawford

Joanna Crawford, BPsych(Hons) MPsychol(Clin), is a registered psychologist with ten years of experience in mental health research.
Her research interests include mood disorders, exercise and lifestyle factors in mental health, diabetes and mental health and the use of brief writing interventions for psychological and health benefits in medical populations. Her experience as a clinical psychologist includes the treatment of post traumatic stress disorder and other anxiety disorders, mood disorders and substance abuse.
Joanna is currently a PhD candidate in the School of Psychiatry, University of New South Wales, supervised by Prof Kay Wilhelm and A/Prof Judy Proudfoot. Her PhD involves the development and evaluation of an Internet-based ‘benefit-finding’ writing intervention for adults with diabetes. This project will examine the efficacy of the intervention in improving diabetes-related distress, depression and self-care amongst people with diabetes. The project is based at Faces in the Street: Urban Mental Health Research Institute, St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney, Australia.
Joanna has co-authored ten papers published in peer reviewed journals and contributed to the development of psychological treatment manuals and professional training programs. She worked as a researcher at the Black Dog Institute for seven years, as a clinical psychologist at the Traumatic Stress Clinic, Westmead Hospital, and as an evaluation officer with an international NGO in Cambodia.
