John Wentworth is an adult endocrinologist based at Royal Melbourne Hospital and Walter and Eliza Hall Institute. His current research focusses on early diagnosis of type 1 diabetes and its prevention using immunotherapy. He established the Type1Screen family screening program in 2019 and in 2022 introduced in-home capillary blood autoantibody screening to ensure every Australian T1D family has access. He is working to offer testing to the broader population and continues to lead immunotherapy trials that aim to preserve beta cell function and prevent disease progression to insulin dependence.
