Dr Gilberto Paz-Filho is Fellow and Leader of the Translational Endocrinology Team, Department of Genome Sciences, The John Curtin School of Medical Research, The Australian National University.. He obtained his MD (2001) and his Master of Internal Medicine degrees (2006) from the Federal University of Parana, Brazil. He conducted postdoctoral studies at the University of Miami, USA (2006-2009). He is an endocrinologist certified by the Brazilian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism (highest score nationwide, 2005). He has received several awards from endocrine societies, including The Endocrine Society International Scholars Award (2006), the Gordon and Gretel Bootes Foundation Award (2010) and the Alan and Elizabeth Finkel Prize (2011). Dr. Paz-Filho has >60 scientific publications and book chapters, and his research interests are leptin deficiency, leptin replacement therapy, neuroendocrine body weight regulation, and evaluation of the interactions between stress, antidepressants, mood, cognition and body fat.
